Applicable Standards: 29 CFR 1910.132, 1910.133, 1910.138, 1910.95, 1910.136

3. Eye & Face Protection (Goggles Required for Spraying)

Standard safety glasses are NOT sufficient for mixing or spraying.

Rule: Contact lenses are prohibited during mixing or spraying.
The eyewash station must be within 100 feet of the mixing/spraying area (1910.151(c)).

4. Body Protection (Coveralls)

Standard work clothes (cotton, denim) are not sufficient for spray work.

Rule: Tape cuffs and ankles to prevent overspray entry. Remove inside out to avoid skin contamination. Change immediately if wet inside.

Rule: If boots become wet inside, stop and change immediately. Do not wait for burning sensation.

7. Hearing Protection (Spray Rigs Exceed 85 dBA)

Rule: If you must raise your voice to speak to someone 3 feet away, noise levels exceed 85 dBA. Wear hearing protection.
Required: Earplugs (NRR 25+) or earmuffs. Double protection (plugs + muffs) for extended exposure.
Hearing Conservation Program required per 1910.95 if exposure reaches 85+ dBA (annual audiograms, training).

9. Training Requirements (1910.132(f))

Training provided before initial use, annually, and when hazards change:

  • What PPE is required for each task
  • How to properly don, doff, adjust, and wear
  • Limitations of the PPE
  • Care, maintenance, and disposal
  • Recognition of damage requiring replacement

10. Enforcement

Supervisors will conduct daily PPE inspections before work begins. Employees found without required PPE will be removed from the work area until compliant.
